Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item allows players to raise the item level for equippable items such as weapons, armor and trinkets above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

These can be salvaged by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.
Depending on the type of item, upgrading an item can cost Dilithium or gold. A lot of upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of crests or Flightstones required to upgrade an item depends on the gear's level and the maximum upgrade level is determined by Blizzard. Upgrades to the highest level are costly, especially when it comes to upgrading PvE gear.
Upgrades can also alter the weapon's ammunition or damage die size. They can also alter the weapon's special properties like its heavy or operative property, or hand requirement. Some upgrades can even change a weapon's appearance.
Before item upgrader make a decision it is important to take into consideration the cost of upgrading an item.
