World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item allows players to boost an item's gear score up to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.

Certain items can be upgraded to increase their stats (like a perfectly broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while others like weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit probability and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also have a flat bonus which increases their damage per second. A lot of weapons also have a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are placed in a group. In some cases this bonus could add up to more than the amount of damage that a weapon can sustain on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity as well as its current level. For instance, a +2 weapon requires two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue rise until it requires an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.
Upgrading weapons will also reroll their base stats. While this is generally beneficial but it can also have negative consequences as well. In the case of items that only see use in a certain build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs, for instance), upgrading them may render them unusable unless you have an extremely lucky roll.
Armor items can be upgraded to boost their effectiveness. This can boost the defense of a helm or chest while belts and gloves will increase their required strength and agility. Armor has a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it may reduce its value.
The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain upon upgrading, along with the relative values of those stats. This means that the weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However, the 3% doesn't mean that it will hit 3 times less often, since it is an absolute number.
A weapon can also be rerolled by pressing the green button with arrows that circle in the menu for items. This will reroll an item and change its statistics, but not reset the weapon's level or connect it to an account's status.
Armor
A few upgrades to your armor can make the world of difference to your survivability. Certain sets can offer massive improvements in the resistance to curses, poison, fire, and magic. This makes it easier to navigate difficult areas. In general, the greater defense you have for your character, the more health you'll gain from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.
You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four fountains in all each of which requires you to complete a unique side quest that involves the Stable Trotters musical troupe. After try what she says 've completed the main side quest and mastered the corresponding fountain, you can then contact any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.
The amount of materials required to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. You'll need anywhere from three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees to upgrade the first armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade the next one. For instance the Champion Leathers could be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep pace with a good-sized group of enemies in most cold climates and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, providing you enough protection to withstand a full on raid with a few friends.
You can't upgrade armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor for physical strength or spell power. It's also worth saving your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you use for the final boss battle and the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades to the weapon you'll use to beat the game. For instance the Longsword or Battleaxe. It's nevertheless beneficial to have some upgrades to the armor on your chest and helmets to allow you to get around a few monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the participant, produce a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five types of potions, each with specific effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded to improve their level of effectiveness. In addition the effects of some potions can be enhanced by adding glowstone dust or redstone to the potions.
Upgrades to potion require a certain amount XP. This can be obtained through crafting them on a craft table, or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. The price of upgrades is dependent on the type of potion you'd like to upgrade, and also on the item's Mark Level and Rarity.
To upgrade a potions you need to right-click it in your inventory. Select "Upgrade" from the menu. This will open a GUI in which you can select the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they'll yield when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches of up to five at a time, and their XP will be added to the total amount of XP you have.
Once a potion is upgraded, it won't degrade until you re-use it, or break the bottle it's stored in. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will also allow you to change the name of the potion.
There were a few updates to potion mechanics in version 1.7.2. For example splash potions now have an average duration of zero,08 seconds (this is not the equivalent of 22.5 seconds that are displayed on the hover display of the item). The potion table is now made of four Wood Planks, and two Glass. This allows it to be used by players in Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions are not compatible with cauldrons, as is the case with Java Edition. The same is true for using a potion in an empty cauldron. This will drain the potion, and refill the bottle.
Finally, there are lingering potions that are brewed using splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone can also be added to potions that are lingering to increase their effects. The potion table has been rearranged to appear more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added such as the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket is an ornamental item that is small, cheap or piece of jewelry. It could also refer to a piece of art or a decoration that serves a purpose, but isn't particularly significant such as a tiny thimble. In some cultures, a trinket is used to show affection or friendship between family members.
In addition to armor, weapons, and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. Upgrades can be obtained by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be swapped at will without losing stats.
The upgrade vendors can be found in major cities and the capital of each zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are purchased using tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrading a trinket is an economical alternative to buying new ones. It can be done by the player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base ilvl of the old one, and will include an additional upgrade bonus of 1.
Once the old Trinkets have become no longer useful they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are an extremely popular alternative to gold.
In general players should upgrade their most important items first. This means that the most-important slot items for each class are first upgraded, followed by their secondary gear and finally other pieces of equipment they won't be replacing in the near future (such as a ring or an cloak). When deciding which items to upgrade players must also consider the class's preferred stats. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats for a tank player, then they should upgrade their helm, chest and shoulders.
After they've become unusable, trinkets can be upgraded to a higher level. The new trinket has an additional 1percent bonus. Re-upgrading will cause the trinket to be destroyed unless it is salvaged with a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, but is still cheaper than purchasing a new one.
